Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.83%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were ALS Ltd (ASX:ALQ), which rose 9.18% or 0.98 points to trade at 11.66 at the close. Meanwhile, Zip Co Ltd (ASX:ZIP) added 9.09% or 0.04 points to end at 0.42 and Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) was up 5.67% or 0.09 points to 1.59 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML), which fell 4.68% or 0.06 points to trade at 1.12 at the close. Skycity Entertainment Group Ltd (ASX:SKC) declined 4.40% or 0.08 points to end at 1.63 and National Australia Bank Ltd (ASX:NAB) was down 3.01% or 0.87 points to 28.03.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 696 to 464 and 367 ended unchanged.
Shares in Skycity Entertainment Group Ltd (ASX:SKC) fell to 3-years lows; down 4.40% or 0.08 to 1.63.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.93% to 12.09.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.09% or 1.80 to $1,948.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.27% or 0.21 to hit $78.47 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.27 to trade at $82.79 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.64, while AUD/JPY fell 0.18% to 96.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 105.60.
