Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Staples, Telecoms Services and A-REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.70% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were A2 Milk Company Ltd (ASX:A2M), which rose 11.23% or 1.350 points to trade at 13.370 at the close. Meanwhile, Chorus Ltd (ASX:CNU) added 6.91% or 0.340 points to end at 5.260 and Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) was up 5.08% or 0.015 points to 0.310 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC), which fell 7.69% or 2.220 points to trade at 26.650 at the close. Technology One Ltd (ASX:TNE) declined 4.62% or 0.380 points to end at 7.850 and Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:CUV) was down 3.46% or 1.070 points to 29.840.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 606 to 539 and 345 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.57% to 10.491 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.07% or 1.10 to $1473.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.33% or 0.19 to hit $56.95 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.08 to trade at $62.36 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.12% to 0.6800, while AUD/JPY fell 0.17% to 73.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 97.655.
