Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Telecoms Services and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.70%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were JB Hi-Fi Ltd (AX:JBH), which rose 5.90% or 1.380 points to trade at 24.760 at the close. Meanwhile, Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (AX:APT) added 5.75% or 0.820 points to end at 15.090 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (AX:A2M) was up 3.48% or 0.340 points to 10.100 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Challenger Ltd (AX:CGF), which fell 6.83% or 0.850 points to trade at 11.600 at the close. Domino'S Pizza Enterprises Ltd (AX:DMP) declined 6.45% or 3.380 points to end at 49.040 and Cochlear Ltd (AX:COH) was down 3.92% or 7.79 points to 190.99.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 630 to 544 and 393 ended unchanged.
Shares in Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (AX:APT) rose to all time highs; up 5.75% or 0.820 to 15.090.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.99% to 11.286.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 2.70 to $1201.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.43% or 0.29 to hit $67.49 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.20 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7270, while AUD/JPY rose 0.12% to 80.60.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 96.17.
