Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the A-REITs, Financials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.47%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were James Hardie Industries PLC (ASX:JHX), which rose 6.83% or 2.06 points to trade at 32.22 at the close. Meanwhile, NRW Holdings Ltd (ASX:NWH) added 6.76% or 0.12 points to end at 1.81 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) was up 5.98% or 0.66 points to 11.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB), which fell 31.01% or 1.510 points to trade at 3.360 at the close. Challenger Ltd (ASX:CGF) declined 7.60% or 0.330 points to end at 4.010 and Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX:PRU) was down 6.35% or 0.100 points to 1.475.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 640 to 596 and 359 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.89% to 19.094.
Gold Futures for October delivery was down 1.55% or 31.40 to $1998.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.26% or 0.11 to hit $42.05 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $44.99 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7159, while AUD/JPY rose 0.37% to 76.02.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 93.653.
