Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Consumer Discretionary and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.47%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL), which rose 28.42% or 4.74 points to trade at 21.42 at the close. Meanwhile, Tassal Group Ltd (ASX:TGR) added 11.89% or 0.49 points to end at 4.61 and Carsales.Com Ltd (ASX:CAR) was up 8.34% or 1.47 points to 19.09 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Blackmores Ltd (ASX:BKL), which fell 12.79% or 11.44 points to trade at 78.00 at the close. Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) declined 4.33% or 0.100 points to end at 2.210 and Orora Ltd (ASX:ORA) was down 4.14% or 0.13 points to 3.01.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 606 to 550 and 359 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.13% to 12.825.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.07% or 1.05 to $1569.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.36% or 0.68 to hit $50.62 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.89% or 1.02 to trade at $55.03 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.20% to 0.6726, while AUD/JPY rose 0.29% to 73.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 98.688.
