Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.35%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were AusNet Services Ltd (ASX:AST), which rose 9.75% or 0.230 points to trade at 2.590 at the close. Meanwhile, Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC) added 5.05% or 2.59 points to end at 53.92 and Champion Iron Ltd (ASX:CIA) was up 4.24% or 0.190 points to 4.670 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were APA Group (ASX:APA), which fell 4.73% or 0.420 points to trade at 8.460 at the close. Nickel Mines Ltd (ASX:NIC) declined 4.52% or 0.045 points to end at 0.950 and Janus Henderson Group PLC DRC (ASX:JHG) was down 3.92% or 2.30 points to 56.42.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 840 to 564 and 391 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 7.50% to 13.348.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.20% or 3.45 to $1760.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.27% or 0.89 to hit $71.03 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.03% or 0.76 to trade at $74.68 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7272, while AUD/JPY rose 0.56% to 79.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.220.
