Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.35%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Lynas Corporation Ltd (AX:LYC), which rose 3.62% or 0.100 points to trade at 2.860 at the close. Meanwhile, Bluescope Steel Ltd (AX:BSL) added 2.99% or 0.510 points to end at 17.540 and Seven West Media Ltd (AX:SWM) was up 2.86% or 0.020 points to 0.720 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Orica Ltd (AX:ORI), which fell 6.60% or 1.340 points to trade at 18.950 at the close. BT Investment Management Ltd (AX:PDL) declined 4.91% or 0.475 points to end at 9.205 and Platinum Asset Management Ltd (AX:PTM) was down 4.79% or 0.280 points to 5.560.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 644 to 541 and 384 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.40% to 11.706.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.05% or 0.60 to $1315.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.16% or 0.81 to hit $70.53 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.88 to trade at $75.75 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.24% to 0.7520, while AUD/JPY fell 0.19% to 82.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 92.47.
