Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:LYC), which rose 6.56% or 0.58 points to trade at 9.42 at the close. Meanwhile, Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) added 6.12% or 0.10 points to end at 1.74 and Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) was up 5.91% or 0.29 points to 5.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Brambles Ltd (ASX:BXB), which fell 7.59% or 0.88 points to trade at 10.72 at the close. Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH) declined 4.60% or 0.12 points to end at 2.49 and Rea Group Ltd (ASX:REA) was down 4.52% or 5.15 points to 108.72.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 782 to 642 and 371 ended unchanged.
Shares in Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) rose to 3-years highs; up 5.91% or 0.29 to 5.20.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 6.26% to 17.22.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.59% or 10.62 to $1,824.62 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.04% or 0.04 to hit $111.86 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.16 to trade at $114.40 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.63% to 0.70, while AUD/JPY rose 0.79% to 90.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 104.01.
