Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrials, Metals & Mining and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.02%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS), which rose 10.71% or 0.030 points to trade at 0.310 at the close. Meanwhile, Galaxy Resources Ltd (ASX:GXY) added 6.59% or 0.055 points to end at 0.890 and Orocobre Ltd (ASX:ORE) was up 5.63% or 0.130 points to 2.440 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sims Metal Management Ltd (ASX:SGM), which fell 8.82% or 0.890 points to trade at 9.200 at the close. Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX:GOR) declined 3.81% or 0.045 points to end at 1.135 and Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd (ASX:CWY) was down 3.78% or 0.070 points to 1.780.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 580 to 566 and 366 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.69% to 11.386 a new 3-months low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 3.35 to $1508.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.18% or 0.10 to hit $56.56 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.40 to trade at $61.62 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.10% to 0.6815, while AUD/JPY rose 0.05% to 74.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 97.595.
