Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sundance Energy Australia Ltd (ASX:SEA), which rose 11.96% or 0.055 points to trade at 0.515 at the close. Meanwhile, OZ Minerals Ltd (ASX:OZL) added 8.33% or 0.260 points to end at 3.380 and ALS Ltd (ASX:ALQ) was up 7.85% or 0.380 points to 5.220 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ozforex Grp (ASX:OFX), which fell 10.33% or 0.28 points to trade at 2.43 at the close. Arrium Ltd (ASX:ARI) declined 6.98% or 0.015 points to end at 0.200 and Lynas Corporation Ltd (ASX:LYC) was down 5.36% or 0.003 points to 0.053.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 321 to 237 and 38 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.96% to 16.722.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.05% or 0.70 to $1277.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in March fell 0.68% or 0.34 to hit $48.80 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.20 to trade at $49.80 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.13% to 0.8218, while AUD/JPY fell 0.47% to 96.23.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 93.00.
