Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.36%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 9.70% or 48.0 points to trade at 543.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) added 5.50% or 47.0 points to end at 901.0 and Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (T:3105) was up 3.75% or 41.0 points to 1134.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703), which fell 4.24% or 69.0 points to trade at 1559.0 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) declined 3.07% or 49.0 points to end at 1549.0 and Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (T:8233) was down 2.95% or 33.0 points to 1085.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1966 to 1164 and 333 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.07% or 49.0 to 1549.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.07% to 13.73.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.81% or 0.35 to $43.73 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.96% or 0.44 to hit $46.48 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.50% or 6.17 to trade at $1252.57 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.27% to 111.56, while EUR/JPY rose 0.25% to 125.37.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 96.72.
