Investing.com - President Donald Trump will declare Covid-19 a national emergency in an effort to speed up the response to the virus in the United States, according to published reports.
The stock market had a limited reaction to the report, with the S&P 500, up 1.5%, still rebounding from Thursday’s sell-off but well off highs for the day.
By invoking the Stafford Act to declare an emergency, the president will free up more federal aid to states and cities, Bloomberg reported. The measure would also allow more leeway to states to use Medicaid resources to treat patients, according to the LA Times.
Trump will hold a press conference at 3 PM ET (19:00 GMT).
