Investing.com - The U.S. economy created more jobs than expected in January as wage growth slipped.
The Labor Department said nonfarm payrolls were up 227,000 after a revised increase of 157,000 in December.
Analysts had expected the U.S. non-farm payrolls to rise 175,000 last month.
The December figure was revised from an initial reading of 156,000.
Average hourly wages were up less than expected at 0.1% from December when they rose a downwardly revised 0.2%.
The unemployment rate rose to 4.8% from an expected unchanged figure of 4.7%.
The dollar index fell back below the 100 mark after the data.
