S&P 500 Futures: Dow Makes New Highs / S&P Up 334% Since March 2009 Lows
After dragging lower for much of the globex session, the S&P 500 futures opened yesterday’s regular trading hours at 2928.00, down -1.75 handles, and immediately traveled up to an early high at 2930.75. From there, the futures stutter stepped down to the the morning low at 2924.00 just after 9:00, before strong buy programs came in pushing the ES up to 2931.75. After a little back and fill, the benchmark futures then went on to rally up to 2936.00 just after 11:00.
The late morning saw a sideways chop into the afternoon, as the ES maintained a five handle range for about three hours, until late in the 1:00 hour when the futures began to dump back through the open, down to the low at 2924.00, just before 2:30. After that, the ES bounced up above the open at 2930.25, ultimately failing there, and pulled back to 2928.25 at 3:00 before going on to settle the day at 2928.75, down -1.25 handles, or -0.04%.
