It’s October and you know what that means. Some of the most famous stock-market crashes in history – 1929, 1987 and 2008.

This month, I’m focused on October 16-17 as potential big downer days, with the nod going to Tuesday, October 17 as this month’s top red-letter trading day. A runner-up day is Monday, October 9, when all the U.S. banks are closed for Columbus Day.

Two out of three warning signals for October 16-17 are based on research done by Christopher Carolan in his book The Spiral Calendar. The third is based on research I’ve done on the gold market in preparation for my new book, Trading in Sync with Commodities—Introducing Astrology to your Technical Toolbox, which will be published in Q1 2018.

Most Bearish Days

First, Carolan notes that October declines in stocks are associated with being in the seventh lunar month of the year, and that days 27 and 28 of that month have the most bearish potential. That would be October 16-17, 2017.

Second, those days are particularly bearish when there is a Full Moon from October 3-19. This year’s Full Moon, on October 5, qualifies.

Third, I’ve found certain astrological indicators associated with significant highs in the gold market, and both October 9 and October 17 fill the bill. However, the latter is stronger because Mercury is moving into the sign of Scorpio that day, something that happened when gold made highs in October 1999 and October 2012.

My research highlights October 9 as well, due to transits to the natal chart of the S&P 500 index, first calculated on March 4, 1957. On October 9, 2017, both the Sun and Mercury will be opposite the S&P 500 index natal moon. These two planets were in similar relationship to the S&P 500 horoscope at the highs in September 1995 (Mercury and Venus), October 1997 (Sun) and October 2007 (Sun and Moon).
