MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke with President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday morning, and described the first telephone call between the leaders since Tuesday's U.S. elections as "very cordial."

Sheinbaum posted on social-media platform X a photo of herself smiling at her desk, adding that she and Trump spoke about the "good relations that we'll have between Mexico and the United States."

The post did not go into further detail about the call.

Issues touching on Mexico's relationship with its northern neighbor, including trade, migration and security, played a large role in the election that will send the former president back to the White House in January.

Earlier on Thursday, Sheinbaum said she expected to discuss with Trump "all of the issues on the bilateral agenda."

Sheinbaum sent Trump a congratulatory letter on Wednesday, and has repeatedly pledged she will pursue good ties with the United States, Mexico's top trade partner.

Sheinbaum, who lived for several years in California as a university student, is a fluent English speaker.
