NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday as caution after a strong September rally offset positive signs on U.S. corporate earnings and the Chinese manufacturing sector.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 37.96 points, or 0.35 percent, to 10,820.18. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 5.14 points, or 0.45 percent, to 1,142.56. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 10.02 points, or 0.42 percent, to 2,369.57.
