* Technology shares lagged in the early going, with shares of National Semiconductor Corp and Texas Instruments Inc slipping after the chipmakers issued quarterly financial targets that stoked investor worries about a sluggish economy.
* The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 4.01 points, or 0.04 percent, at 10,419.25. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 0.57 points, or 0.05 percent, to 1,104.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index dipped 0.58 points, or 0.03 percent, to 2,235.62.
