NEW YORK, Jan 20 (Reuters) -U.S. stocks extended losses on Thursday as upbeat data on jobs and housing failed to stop a slide in materials and energy shares.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 71.25 points, or 0.60 percent, to 11,754.04. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 9.05 points, or 0.71 percent, to 1,272.87. The Nasdaq Composite Index slid 31.91 points, or 1.17 percent, to 2,693.45.
