NEW YORK, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Investors were reluctant to make big bets ahead of two events that could dictate the market's direction for the rest of the year and beyond, leaving stocks little changed at the close on Monday.
* The Dow Jones industrial average gained 5.90 points, or 0.05 percent, to 11,124.39. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 1.02 points, or 0.09 percent, to 1,184.28. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 2.57 points, or 0.10 percent, to 2,504.84.
