The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking a court order to prevent Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) acquisition of Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), according to Reuters, which cited sources familiar with the matter.
The FTC had initially requested an administrative judge to block the transaction, arguing that it would grant Microsoft's Xbox exclusive access to Activision games, potentially excluding Nintendo consoles and Sony 's (NYSE:SONY) PlayStation.
The FTC is planning to file for the court order in the Northern District of California, according to the sources.
In response to the news, Microsoft President Brad Smith stated that they welcome the opportunity to present their case in federal court. Activision Blizzard has not provided any comments regarding the situation.
