MILAN, Oct 28 (Reuters) - UniCredit SpA's Chairman Dieter Rampl said on Thursday he would stay on at Italy's biggest lender, despite a media report he might consider leaving over a management reshuffle.
UniCredit's board on Tuesday named retail chief Roberto Nicastro as sole general manager, prompting the departure of top investment banker Sergio Ermotti.
Corriere della Sera reported on Thursday that Rampl, who had backed naming Ermotti co-general manager, might consider leaving. The daily tipped Theodor Weimer, chief executive of German unit HVB, as a possible replacement.
"As far as I am concerned, I was elected by the assembly until April 2012," Rampl told reporters on the sidelines of the Mediobanca board meeting.
Asked if he was considering resigning, he said: "I have replied already."
Chief Executive Federico Ghizzoni also denied that Rampl was considering leaving.
Shares in UniCredit were up 0.27 percent to 1.8910 euros by 0810 GMT, slightly outperforming the STOXX Europe 600 Bank index , which was up 0.06 percent. (Reporting by Gianluca Semeraro, writing by Antonella Ciancio; Editing by Will Waterman)
