MADRID, March 23 (Reuters) - Repsol raised $1.07 billion through the sale of 26.2 million shares in Argentine unit YPF, as the Spanish oil company further cut its exposure to South America.
Repsol said on Wednesday it sold the shares for $41 through a public share offering in Argentina, compared with the $42.4 it got in a recent YPF stake sale to institutions..
Repsol has been trying to balance its geographical portfolio by reducing its heavy exposure to Latin America where it is the largest investor from outside the region. It wants to lower its YPF stake to just over 50 percent.
The company sold 40 percent of its Brazilian upstream assets to Chinese group Sinopec in October. Repsol said on March 14 it planned to sell 24.27 million YPF shares on the Argentine stock market, when announcing the deal to sell a 3.83 percent stake at $42.4 per share.
The company said on Wednesday it was offering the bank's managing the issue a green shoe option of 3.9 million shares, compared with the 3.6 million shares announced on March 14.
Repsol shares were down 0.9 percent at 0855 GMT. (Reporting by Jonathan Gleave; Editing by Dan Lalor)
