Meanwhile, Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) added 2.26% or 16.20 points to end at 732.20 and Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) was up 2.11% or 11.00 points to 532.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which fell 3.64% or 48.00 points to trade at 1,272.00 at the close. Beazley PLC (LON:BEZG) declined 3.04% or 21.50 points to end at 686.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was down 2.78% or 69.50 points to 2,432.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1053 to 763 and 693 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.05% or 1.25 to $2,338.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.75% or 1.43 to hit $82.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.64% or 1.39 to trade at $86.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.09% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 105.59.
