Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Life Insurance/Assurance and Electrical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.24%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.12% or 40.50 points to trade at 1338.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 1.74% or 30.00 points to end at 1750.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 1.25% or 72.00 points to 5830.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which fell 20.74% or 48.40 points to trade at 185.00 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 5.11% or 7.50 points to end at 139.40 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) was down 4.27% or 15.90 points to 356.70.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1516 to 495 and 335 ended unchanged.
Shares in Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.74% or 30.00 to 1750.00.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.05% or 0.70 to $1303.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.65% or 1.80 to hit $66.08 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.46 to trade at $74.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.3255, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.8718.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 94.72.
