Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Insurance, Banking and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.06% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 2.23% or 43.00 points to trade at 1,973.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 1.44% or 5.90 points to end at 415.20 and ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:CTEC) was up 1.30% or 3.20 points to 248.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which fell 4.26% or 92.00 points to trade at 2,067.00 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 4.25% or 32.00 points to end at 721.20 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was down 4.20% or 13.00 points to 296.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1195 to 638 and 676 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.08% or 1.85 to $2,328.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.37% or 0.29 to hit $78.03 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.39 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.20% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 104.95.
