Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Food & Drug Retailers, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Software & Computer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.01%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which rose 2.38% or 2.56 points to trade at 110.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) added 1.72% or 2.18 points to end at 129.30 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 1.30% or 1.40 points to 109.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which fell 5.21% or 12.40 points to trade at 225.80 at the close. Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) declined 4.85% or 22.90 points to end at 449.70 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 4.84% or 84.00 points to 1650.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1566 to 524 and 265 ended unchanged.
Shares in Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.85% or 22.90 to 449.70.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.28% or 3.55 to $1280.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.27% or 0.75 to hit $58.39 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.63% or 1.12 to trade at $67.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.27% to 1.2618, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8821.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 98.062.
