Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.85%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 5.39% or 85.50 points to trade at 1673.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) added 3.12% or 17.00 points to end at 562.00 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 3.07% or 10.20 points to 342.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which fell 5.49% or 64.50 points to trade at 1110.50 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) declined 4.98% or 89.50 points to end at 1708.50 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) was down 4.14% or 240.0 points to 5555.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1665 to 492 and 241 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.98% or 89.50 to 1708.50. Shares in DCC plc (LON:DCC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.14% or 240.0 to 5555.0.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.16% or 1.90 to $1223.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 5.12% or 2.93 to hit $54.27 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 5.11% or 3.41 to trade at $63.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.2811, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8889.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 96.53.
