Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 7.98% or 448.00 points to trade at 6064.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 5.53% or 22.80 points to end at 435.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 3.40% or 2.50 points to 76.08 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which fell 8.36% or 14.75 points to trade at 161.80 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 8.05% or 52.60 points to end at 601.00 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) was down 5.66% or 59.00 points to 984.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1199 to 951 and 198 ended unchanged.
Shares in Next PLC (LON:NXT) rose to 52-week highs; rising 7.98% or 448.00 to 6064.00. Shares in Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) rose to 5-year highs; rising 5.53% or 22.80 to 435.00. Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) fell to 3-years lows; down 8.05% or 52.60 to 601.00.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.22% or 3.20 to $1426.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.79% or 0.46 to hit $58.51 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.53 to trade at $65.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.61% to 1.2223, while EUR/GBP fell 0.77% to 0.9106.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 97.885.
