Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Beverage and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.73% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR), which rose 9.70% or 334.00 points to trade at 3,779.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Entain PLC (LON:ENT) added 8.64% or 61.60 points to end at 774.80 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 5.62% or 965.00 points to 18,140.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 3.93% or 97.50 points to trade at 2,385.50 at the close. GSK plc (LON:GSK) declined 3.07% or 44.50 points to end at 1,407.00 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was down 2.84% or 328.00 points to 11,206.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 956 to 942 and 565 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.59% or 16.50 to $2,797.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.96% or 1.32 to hit $68.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.89% or 1.34 to trade at $72.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.52% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 103.96.
