Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which rose 1.29% or 9.40 points to trade at 738.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 0.94% or 18.50 points to end at 1983.50 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 0.78% or 31.00 points to 4020.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO), which fell 5.00% or 24.60 points to trade at 467.80 at the close. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) declined 4.25% or 7.10 points to end at 159.90 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) was down 3.40% or 5.50 points to 156.25.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1213 to 797 and 324 ended unchanged.
Shares in Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) rose to 52-week highs; up 0.94% or 18.50 to 1983.50. Shares in Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) fell to 5-year lows; down 3.40% or 5.50 to 156.25.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.60% or 7.30 to $1204.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.58% or 0.40 to hit $69.91 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.32 to trade at $77.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.25% to 1.2993, while EUR/GBP fell 0.27% to 0.8964.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 94.80.
