Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Aerospace & Defense and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.73% or 28.80 points to trade at 800.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 3.07% or 192.00 points to end at 6452.00 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) was up 1.78% or 25.50 points to 1460.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which fell 5.53% or 27.70 points to trade at 473.30 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 4.80% or 6.90 points to end at 136.70 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was down 4.61% or 53.50 points to 1108.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1461 to 628 and 286 ended unchanged.
Shares in BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.53% or 27.70 to 473.30. Shares in ITV PLC (LON:ITV) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.80% or 6.90 to 136.70. Shares in Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) rose to all time highs; rising 1.78% or 25.50 to 1460.50. Shares in Tui AG (LON:TUIT) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.61% or 53.50 to 1108.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.29% or 3.55 to $1243.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.08% or 0.04 to hit $52.91 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.25 to trade at $61.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.38% to 1.2675, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8936.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 97.002.
