Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Tobacco, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 15.69% or 57.80 points to trade at 426.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) added 3.59% or 53.00 points to end at 1,531.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 2.10% or 5.90 points to 286.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which fell 6.45% or 62.00 points to trade at 899.80 at the close. GSK plc (LON:GSK) declined 4.60% or 73.50 points to end at 1,526.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was down 3.30% or 24.60 points to 722.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1001 to 789 and 712 ended unchanged.
Shares in DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) rose to 52-week highs; up 15.69% or 57.80 to 426.20. Shares in Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.45% or 62.00 to 899.80.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.09% or 25.10 to $2,338.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.48% or 0.39 to hit $81.29 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.33 to trade at $84.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 105.54.
