Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Automobiles & Parts sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 3.07% or 16.20 points to trade at 543.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 2.09% or 36.00 points to end at 1756.80 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 1.26% or 2.20 points to 176.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which fell 19.00% or 17.26 points to trade at 73.58 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 17.75% or 141.00 points to end at 653.60 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was down 5.58% or 55.90 points to 945.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1472 to 680 and 198 ended unchanged.
Shares in Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) fell to 5-year lows; down 19.00% or 17.26 to 73.58. Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) fell to 3-years lows; down 17.75% or 141.00 to 653.60.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.64% or 9.05 to $1429.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.97% or 0.55 to hit $57.42 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.96% or 0.61 to trade at $64.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.2166, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.9165.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 97.843.
