Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Forestry & Paper sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.49%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 2.79% or 84.00 points to trade at 3089.00 at the close. Meanwhile, DCC (LON:DCC) added 1.90% or 125.0 points to end at 6705.0 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 1.42% or 13.000 points to 931.500 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which fell 2.78% or 53.00 points to trade at 1854.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.60% or 28.50 points to end at 1065.50 and Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) was down 2.45% or 60.00 points to 2393.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1174 to 1144 and 444 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.40% or 5.05 to $1262.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.42% or 0.72 to hit $50.13 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.39% or 0.72 to trade at $51.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.2197, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.8924.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 98.73.
