Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Industrial Transportation and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG), which rose 3.51% or 124.00 points to trade at 3,656.00 at the close. Meanwhile, United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 3.45% or 34.20 points to end at 1,025.00 and Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) was up 3.42% or 43.00 points to 1,302.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which fell 2.56% or 17.70 points to trade at 673.60 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.49% or 75.00 points to end at 2,936.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was down 2.23% or 184.00 points to 8,062.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1048 to 716 and 733 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.06% or 25.10 to $2,394.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.27% or 0.23 to hit $84.11 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.14 to trade at $87.57 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 104.63.
