Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, General Industrial and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.42% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 7.68% or 11.70 points to trade at 163.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) added 1.87% or 110.00 points to end at 6000.00 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 1.55% or 7.80 points to 512.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which fell 4.43% or 105.00 points to trade at 2267.00 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 3.69% or 80.00 points to end at 2085.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was down 3.24% or 138.00 points to 4120.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1399 to 620 and 300 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.19% or 2.40 to $1277.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.90% or 1.25 to hit $64.44 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.64 to trade at $74.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.60% to 1.3168, while EUR/GBP rose 0.16% to 0.8787.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 94.74.
