Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Life Insurance/Assurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.91% or 47.00 points to trade at 1664.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Next PLC (LON:NXT) added 2.25% or 93.00 points to end at 4227.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 2.02% or 160.00 points to 8070.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which fell 2.53% or 31.00 points to trade at 1196.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 2.19% or 13.50 points to end at 603.50 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was down 1.89% or 34.50 points to 1788.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1294 to 627 and 455 ended unchanged.
Shares in Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) rose to 52-week highs; rising 2.02% or 160.00 to 8070.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.70% or 9.26 to $1339.66 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.40% or 0.19 to hit $47.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.37 to trade at $52.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.2934, while EUR/GBP rose 0.55% to 0.9215.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 92.45.
