Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, General Retailers and Financial Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DCC plc (LON:DCC), which rose 1.68% or 110.0 points to trade at 6675.0 at the close. Meanwhile, GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) added 1.42% or 21.4 points to end at 1524.6 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 1.04% or 17.00 points to 1647.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which fell 6.36% or 15.60 points to trade at 229.70 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 4.83% or 12.80 points to end at 252.40 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) was down 4.20% or 23.20 points to 529.20.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1272 to 788 and 336 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.40% or 5.25 to $1301.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.83% or 0.49 to hit $59.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.43 to trade at $68.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.68% to 1.3176, while EUR/GBP rose 0.71% to 0.8613.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 95.942.
