Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Beverage and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.35%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which rose 3.10% or 4.76 points to trade at 158.34 at the close. Meanwhile, Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 2.95% or 4.10 points to end at 142.90 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 2.48% or 6.70 points to 276.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which fell 2.37% or 100.00 points to trade at 4122.50 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 2.11% or 63.00 points to end at 2923.50 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was down 2.10% or 34.60 points to 1610.60.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1211 to 782 and 320 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.10 to $1195.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.05% or 0.69 to hit $66.11 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.49 to trade at $72.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.46% to 1.2855, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.8969.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 95.44.
