Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Electrical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which rose 6.01% or 13.40 points to trade at 236.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) added 4.86% or 30.50 points to end at 658.50 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 4.05% or 10.70 points to 275.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN), which fell 2.87% or 310.00 points to trade at 10,480.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.47% or 63.50 points to end at 2,507.50 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) was down 1.52% or 15.00 points to 975.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1096 to 698 and 642 ended unchanged.
Shares in International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 4.05% or 10.70 to 275.10.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.25% or 6.59 to $2,674.49 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.96% or 0.67 to hit $69.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.60 to trade at $73.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 106.15.
