Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Tobacco and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.23%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.69% or 35.00 points to trade at 1337.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.64% or 95.00 points to end at 3694.50 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 2.53% or 9.60 points to 389.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which fell 2.09% or 105.00 points to trade at 4917.00 at the close. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) declined 1.98% or 37.00 points to end at 1829.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) was down 1.98% or 67.00 points to 3323.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1052 to 958 and 391 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.53% or 6.79 to $1278.59 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.35% or 0.19 to hit $54.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.21 to trade at $60.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.58% to 1.3209, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8810.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 94.45.
