Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Household Goods & Home Construction and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 4.45% or 75.00 points to trade at 1759.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 2.52% or 4.70 points to end at 191.35 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 2.42% or 5.90 points to 249.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 2.94% or 235.00 points to trade at 7765.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.30% or 37.00 points to end at 1570.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was down 2.04% or 52.00 points to 2503.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 991 to 976 and 423 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 4.86 to $1330.84 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.33% or 0.16 to hit $48.23 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.67% or 0.36 to trade at $54.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.3272, while EUR/GBP fell 0.73% to 0.9015.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 91.89.
