Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Household Goods & Home Construction and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.88% or 21.50 points to trade at 769.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 2.00% or 8.80 points to end at 448.50 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 1.73% or 148.00 points to 8,714.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which fell 1.96% or 53.00 points to trade at 2,645.00 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 1.81% or 29.50 points to end at 1,601.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was down 1.72% or 2.75 points to 157.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1046 to 753 and 659 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.88% or 21.50 to 769.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.54% or 14.85 to $2,753.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.77% or 1.94 to hit $71.98 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.57% or 1.91 to trade at $76.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.04% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 103.89.
