Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.14%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 5.41% or 49.00 points to trade at 955.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 2.33% or 5.80 points to end at 254.30 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) was up 2.32% or 8.50 points to 375.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which fell 4.00% or 10.00 points to trade at 240.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 3.30% or 10.60 points to end at 310.85 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was down 2.32% or 13.20 points to 556.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1114 to 904 and 353 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.81% or 10.35 to $1290.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.71% or 2.42 to hit $62.79 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.77% or 2.80 to trade at $71.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.27% to 1.2932, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8632.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 97.655.
