Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Insurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 6.14% or 54.80 points to trade at 946.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) added 4.87% or 5.20 points to end at 112.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.05% or 72.60 points to 1865.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which fell 4.89% or 7.04 points to trade at 137.00 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 2.87% or 126.00 points to end at 4257.50 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) was down 2.58% or 51.00 points to 1925.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1229 to 810 and 319 ended unchanged.
Shares in Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) fell to 5-year lows; falling 4.89% or 7.04 to 137.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.39% or 17.75 to $1297.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.75% or 0.40 to hit $53.53 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.36 to trade at $61.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.76% to 1.3163, while EUR/GBP rose 0.16% to 0.8665.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 95.565.
