Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 3.57% or 46.00 points to trade at 1335.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.48% or 9.10 points to end at 375.80 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 1.77% or 26.60 points to 1531.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which fell 4.03% or 7.70 points to trade at 183.45 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 3.39% or 60.50 points to end at 1725.50 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was down 3.10% or 21.20 points to 663.60.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1076 to 834 and 151 ended unchanged.
Shares in Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) fell to 3-years lows; down 3.39% or 60.50 to 1725.50. Shares in United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) fell to 3-years lows; falling 3.10% or 21.20 to 663.60.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.29% or 3.90 to $1330.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.27% or 0.16 to hit $59.13 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $62.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.35% to 1.3887, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.8901.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 89.54.
