Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Construction & Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 4.74% or 53.00 points to trade at 1172.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) added 3.17% or 69.00 points to end at 2243.00 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was up 2.31% or 14.00 points to 619.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which fell 5.78% or 107.00 points to trade at 1745.00 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 4.02% or 151.50 points to end at 3613.00 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) was down 1.35% or 16.00 points to 1173.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 994 to 895 and 476 ended unchanged.
Shares in Provident Financial (LON:PFG) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.78% or 107.00 to 1745.00. Shares in Shire PLC (LON:SHP) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.02% or 151.50 to 3613.00.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.34% or 4.39 to $1295.99 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.77% or 0.86 to hit $47.80 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.82% or 0.96 to trade at $51.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.19% to 1.2902, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.9157.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 93.02.
