Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Construction & Materials and Industrial Transportation sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 3.38% or 107.50 points to trade at 3284.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) added 2.65% or 14.40 points to end at 557.60 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) was up 2.20% or 18.00 points to 835.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which fell 17.00% or 80.70 points to trade at 394.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 4.96% or 60.00 points to end at 1150.50 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) was down 3.50% or 55.00 points to 1517.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1097 to 981 and 277 ended unchanged.
Shares in Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) fell to all time lows; falling 17.00% or 80.70 to 394.00. Shares in EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.96% or 60.00 to 1150.50.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1230.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.56% or 1.84 to hit $70.08 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.61% or 1.31 to trade at $80.10 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.36% to 1.3137, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8783.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 95.06.
