Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Industrial Transportation and General Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA), which rose 4.70% or 10.95 points to trade at 244.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 4.48% or 51.00 points to end at 1190.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was up 2.59% or 117.50 points to 4657.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which fell 3.91% or 66.50 points to trade at 1632.50 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 3.80% or 10.50 points to end at 266.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was down 3.29% or 15.40 points to 452.70.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1175 to 810 and 325 ended unchanged.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.17% or 2.15 to $1247.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.19% or 1.12 to hit $52.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.56% or 0.94 to trade at $61.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.2630, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8995.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 97.097.
